Morning Reflections
I shot this early on Saturday morning, 20 October 2007. Most photography books suggest that landscapes look best when shot at sunrise or sunset. Perhaps the same is true of cityscapes? Certainly the light is odd at this time of day, and one gets unexpected reflections. Here we see the downtown YMCA reflected in the window of a building across the street. Back in 1924, my grandmother dated a man named Norman who once lived at this very address. It's a real landmark, and I think you can see Norm's ghosts standing in one of the windows . . . . Hi Norm!
Zaidy's for Breakfast 2
Zaidy's deli offers a warm haven of delight to Denver dwellers wandering the streets of LoDo in search of a killer knish. http://www.zaidysdeli.com/

5 Degrees - Dark Window
An odd shot, taken through the window of the 5 Degrees nightclub on Saturday morning, 20 October 2007, as the normal patrons slept off their hangovers.

Larimer Square - Lions at Sunrise
Lions sit stoically outside the Capital Grille, early on a Saturday morning, trying hard to forget last night. If these two saw any evidence of wild behavior among the yuppies who haunt the nearby clubs, they ain't sayin'. See them on the job at their website: http://www.thecapitalgrille.com/Locations/Denver/Main.asp?Location=Denver

Kettle Arcade - Masks in a Glass Box
A display in the Kettle Arcade, on Larimer Square, strongly suggests that one would do well to keep one's eyes wide open in Denver's night club district, lest one suddenly find oneself in a Stanley Kubrick film.

Morning Bus Stop - Arriving at Auraria
Denver metro buses prowl at the main stop for CU Denver's Auraria Campus, early on a Saturday morning. Normally, the scene would be crowded with students headed to their first classes.

Autumn Walk on 16th Avenue No. 1 - Capitol Center
Standing at Sherman Street and looking down East 16th Avenue toward Grant Street, one may see the Capitol Center on the left and the HCPF building on the right. You may not think there's a strong naval presence in Denver, but I see more Navy whites at Capitol Center than I ever saw when I worked in downtown Seattle! It seems to be a military beehive.

Autumn Walk on 16th Avenue No. 2 - Curious Coffee
A Saturday morning view of Curious Coffee at Capitol Center, on the corner of 16th and Grant Street. During the work week there's usually a line of sleepy folks waiting for their daily cuppa joe -- employees from the Naval recruiting office upstairs and from "Hic Puff" (the state Health Care Policy and Finance department) across the street. Capitol Center is definitely part of the government campus surrounding the state capitol building, which is only a few blocks away.

Subtly Nuanced Parking Garage
Rumor has it that Monet tried for years to capture the perfect light that strikes the parking garage at the Denver Performing Arts Center, but failed, and moved to some lonely bog in France to paint water lillies. Too bad he didn't have a digital camera.
