Double-Headed Eagle of Lagash

The double-headed eagle is a common symbol in heraldry, notably the arms of the Romanov family. It represents the dual sovereignity of the Emperor (secular and religious). Seen here, over the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple in Denver, however, it is a clear reference to the "Double-Headed Eagle of Lagash" -- an alchemical symbol of union between the masculine and feminine principles of the individual.
