This is the "East High Angel" -- a statue that once graced the cornerstone of East High School. The face was once so beautiful that the school decided to name their sports teams "the Angels." East High alumni call themselves "ancient angels."
The statue now lies neglected in a nearby rock garden, surrounded by garbage. The students use the garden as a smoking area (judging from the cigarette butts).
This angel is a sad testament to what has happened to the spirit of high schools throughout America. East was once one of the best high schools in Denver.
