Gloomy skies darken the intersection of 13th and Bannock, seen here from the Sculpture Deck of the Denver Art Museum on the rainy Saturday afternoon of 5 May. A glum refugee carrying balloons from the Cinco de Mayo fest may be seen in the crosswalk opposite a Spanish-style building which is, ironically, a British pub.

Denver Art Museum: Gloomy View of the Complex
Gloomy skies darken the intersection of 13th and Bannock, seen here from the Sculpture Deck of the Denver Art Museum on the rainy Saturday afternoon of 5 May. A glum refugee carrying balloons from the Cinco de Mayo fest may be seen in the crosswalk opposite a Spanish-style building which is, ironically, a British pub.

A clear example of the strange angularity of the Hamilton Building, a recent addition to the Denver Art Museum designed by architect Daniel Liebeskind. This is the "Sculpture Deck" on Level 3. For more on the controversy surrounding Liebeskind's "cutting edge" design, see www.denverartmuseum.org

Denver Art Museum: Sculpture Deck 3
Denver's city skyline on the rainy afternoon of Saturday 5 May 2007, as seen from the Sculpture Deck on Level 3 of the Denver Art Museum. The outdoor tables of the museum's rooftop terrace, where one may usually see couples enjoying coffee in the sun, is empty. In the distance may be seen the tents of Denver's annual Cinco de Mayo festival, lining Civic Center park. The white building in the far distance is the new headquarters of the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News.Denver Art Museum: Sculpture Deck 4

Under grey sky and raindrops, Denver's annual Cinco de Mayo festival (background) sent Latino music bouncing eerily off the walls of the public library (right). In the foreground one may find a few clues as to why the Sculpture Deck is called the Sculpture Deck.
